As BoxingScene.com reported on Wednesday, and now it's been made official, former IBF middleweight world champion David Lemieux (38-4, 33 KOs) is going to stay busy by returning to the ring on May 26th in Quebec.

The return has been confirmed by Lemieux's management and co-promoters, Eye of The Tiger Management.

Lemieux was initially being positioned to fight on May 5th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, as part of the HBO Pay-Per-View undercard to the Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez rematch.

The Cinco De Mayo event fell apart after Canelo was temporarily suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for testing positive for banned substance clenbuterol back in February.

Lemieux was last seen in the ring back in December, when he was dominated over twelve rounds by WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders at Place Bell in Laval, Canada. It was Lemieux's mandatory shot and he was actually the betting favorite in most markets, with many expecting him to knock Saunders out.

After that fight, Lemieux said he was plagued by a few injuries that needed rehabilitation, which is why his first fight of the year was delayed by a few months.

Lemieux will return against French fighter Karim Achour (26-4-3, 4 KOs) at the Videotron Center, in a fight where the WBC international title will be at stake.

"Of course we do not want another defeat. Boxing fans want to see David Lemieux at his best. I'll be prepared, I'll take care of the injuries so that I do not have any worries in the ring. I'm aiming to return to the top, so every fight is very important. On May 26, expect fireworks," said Lemieux to The Montreal Journal.

Although this is not Lemieux's first option, the fight against Achour is far from being won, according to Lemieux's head trainer Marc Ramsay.

"We just canceled a big fight [on May 5], and for a few days David was very disappointed. However, this alternative is better than expected. Achour holds international titles and has never been stopped. David will have the opportunity to prove something about his progress as a boxer," Ramsay said.

Also on the card, Nova Scotia's Custio Clayton (14-0, 10 KOs) will face Dutchman Stephen Danyo (14-0-3, 6 KOs).

Clayton is currently ranked seventh by the WBO in the welterweight division, while Danyo is just behind him at eighth.

The WBO International and IBF Intercontinental welterweight titles will be at stake.
