New York native Willie Monroe Jr. (18-1, 6KOs) burst onto the scene by winning the Boxcino middleweight tournament on May 23rd by defeating the then undefeated Brandon Adams.

Monroe hopes to parlay his success in the tournament into a title shot. He said that he thinks WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin will successfully defend his titles on July 26th when he takes on former champ Daniel Geale and said that he would have no problems facing Golovkin in the near future.

"I think Triple G should win. That is a fight I am looking forward to seeing. People think I'm crazy but that is a fight I want. You gotta be half crazy to be successful in this business. I want to mix it up with him because so many guys won't. I am like 'Oh no one wants to fight you? Well let me step on up and see what the hype is all about.'"

"I'm not an a-hole or anything but I am a competitive person. I haven't formally called him out and I won't call anyone out because that is not my style but down the road if it's two fights or three fights or even my next fight I want to get a crack at Gennady Golovkin. He is an awesome fighter," Monroe told Boxingscene.com.
