Earlier today, UFC President Dana White created plenty of headlines when he revealed that he was scheduled to have a meeting with Floyd Mayweather's team.
Over the last few weeks, there have been rumors regarding the UFC approaching Mayweather with a muti-fight deal to jump-start a career in mixed martial arts.
Mayweather, in a recent interview, claimed the deal was worth $1 billion - but later said he wasn't interested in fighting again.
White clears things up, and says the meeting is not related to Mayweather fighting in the UFC.
He says the meeting is related to the UFC's plan to promote boxing events under their parent company.
"Let's be clear here: Floyd gets killed in MMA, and I think even Floyd knows that," White said.
"I've been very honest about I'm getting into boxing. I want to get into boxing and in 2018 the next couple of months, I'm meeting with everybody from the boxing world and I'm meeting with Team Mayweather too."
At 40 years old and having only a single fight of any kind since 2015, it was a far-fetched idea that Mayweather would ever entertain the idea of fighting in the octagon for any amount of money.
"He's not talking about it," White said explicitly. "I mean, Floyd would be crazy. Obviously it would be a big deal, Floyd would make a lot of money. But no, I don't think Floyd wants to fight in the Octagon."
White got a taste of boxing back in August, when the UFC was a co-promoter to Mayweather's pay-per-view showdown with UFC superstar Conor McGregor.
The event generated over 4 million pay-per-view buys and massive gate at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
It didn't take long before White was discussing the idea of the UFC entering the boxing market under the Zuffa Boxing banner.
White will sit down with Mayweather Promotions to discuss the idea of a working relationship.
"I'm going to talk to a lot of people, I'm going to listen, and then I'm going to figure it out," White said. "I'm going to see if I want to do this or not. But I have a Plan A and a Plan B and we'll see how it goes."
