Promoter Reginaldo Kuchle of Promociones del Pueblo, who handle Marco Antonio Rubio, is willing to take part in a mandatory purse bid for a shot at WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Rubio is the mandatory challenger for the title, but WBC Diamond champion Sergio Martinez was granted the first available opportunity to face Chavez. The fight between Martinez and Chavez was ordered to take place in the first quarter of 2012.

Martinez will face Darren Barker on October 1, while Chavez has two scheduled dates, with Ronald Hearns on September 17 in Mexico and Peter Manfredo Jr. on November 19 in Texas.

If Chavez fails to face Martinez by the WBC's deadline, and the title becomes vacant, then Rubio is willing to face Martinez for the vacant belt.
