Team Golovkin: Quillin Fight Can Happen, Only on HBO

By Bill "Two Scoops" Emes

According to Tom Loeffler, managing director of K2 Promotions, IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24KOs) is willing to face WBO beltholder Peter Quillin (29-0, 21KOs) in his next fight - but only if the match takes place on HBO. The battle of networks could become an issue, as Quillin fights exclusively on Showtime. Quillin is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, and earlier this year HBO cut their business ties with Golden Boy. Despite the promotional complications, Loeffler is confident a deal can be reached if HBO televises the match.

"Gennady fights exclusively on HBO. I think the Quillin fight can be made. Gennady is clearly above where Quillin is at right now. He's a much more popular fighter and sells more tickets. No disrespect to Peter, he's a great champion and he's fought at the Barclays Center before and he fights on Showtime, but if the fight is going to be made it's going to be made on HBO, because we feel they have a bigger budget, and get the higher ratings, and a performance like this tonight - we feel that it will be on HBO," Loffler said.

Quillin avoided Golovkin and used any excuse he could. He didn't want the fight in the past, he doesn't want it in the present and he won't want it in the future. Quillin faces handpicked opponents on other people's undercards…

Here's a scenario where the whole HBO / Showtime gets to become a disservice to the fans. Pretty soon Jiffy Lube and Tecate are gonna get into the fight business and start signing fighters. Now you not only gotta worry…

[QUOTE=Mikhnienko;13520418]- Before Quillin got the WBO Title he was yelling about how desperate he was for a title shot. Golovkin offered him one and he turned it down - Once Quillin won the WBO belt he used the "Golovkin isn't…

[QUOTE=megas30;13520403]Quillin said when the time was right the fight will happen, and that down the road it would make more money. However, here we are down the road, i guess Quillin feels the time is right now and the money…
