Gaby Penagaricano, legal adviser to WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (39-4, 32KOs), tells BoxingScene.com that a deal is still being negotiated for a potential HBO Pay-Per-View fight with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs), with a target date of May 2nd.
Cotto and his handlers are not paying any attention to a recent 'open letter' that was circulated by Canelo, who claims the Puerto Rican star is dragging his feet to finalize a deal.
One way or another, deal or no deal, Penagaricano makes it clear that his fighter wants to resolve their discussions by next week - something that Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum echoed on BoxingScene a few days ago.
"We are still discussing it," Penagaricano told BoxingScene.com. "We will know one way or another by next week."
