IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin and WBA "regular" middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs met face to face at the ongoing annual convention of the WBA Boxing Association in Panama. Golovkin is the WBA's "super champion" at 160-pounds.
Jacobs was in action two weeks ago, when he knocked out Peter Quillin in the first round. Golovkin was last seen in October, when he stopped David Lemieux to unify his three world titles.
By hold the "regular" title, Jacobs is the mandatory challenger to Golovkin. But now Jacobs has a mandatory challenger of his own, with Chris Eubank Jr. stopped Spike O'Sullivan last Saturday night in a final title eliminator.
There is also WBA interim-middleweight champion Alfonso Blanco.
The sanctioning body is expected to issue a decision to clear up the confusion in their middleweight ranks and order a few mandatory fights.
