There are no more restrictions, as the World Boxing Organization has approved undefeated heavyweights Andy Ruiz (29-0, 19KOs) and Joseph Parker (21-0, 18KOs) to battle for the vacant WBO championship.

Two weeks ago, Tyson Fury vacated the title to concentrate on his failing mental health and personal issues. Parker and Ruiz are the two highest ranked available contenders and were expecting to fight each other on a December date in New Zealand.

The fight hung in the balance, as the WBO was considering the possibility of a four man tournament. Now with the WBO's approval, the fight is likely taking place in Auckland on December 10 at Vector Arena .

According to Gareth Davies of The Telegraph, the winner will have to face former two division champion David Haye (28-2, 26KOs) within 120 days. Haye is ranked right behind Parker and Ruiz in the WBO's ratings.

Snapping more than a three year layoff, Haye returned to the ring in January of this year and has since racked in two quick knockout wins. He is expected to fight again in December.

Besides being the WBO's top contender, Parker is also the mandatory challenger to the IBF title, which is held by Anthony Joshua. That's why a tournament idea would have never worked - because Parker already held a guaranteed shot at the IBF belt.

The date of December 10 will be a huge day for heavyweight boxing. Joshua is expected to defend his IBF against an opponent to be announced in Manchester, while Wladimir Klitschko is likely to face Lucas Browne for the vacant WBA/IBO world titles in Hamburg, Germany. There were negotiations for several weeks to see Joshua and Klitschko face each other, but the contest was hit with a big hurdle after Klitschko refused to move forward unless the WBA sanctioned their bout for the vacant heavyweight belt (also dropped by Fury).
