Omar Salado: record, next fight and profile →
A world title moved a significant step closer Saturday night in the willing exchanges that paced Andy Cruz to a convincing lightweight victory over rugged Omar Salcido at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.
On Sunday in Orlando, the impression made by Bakhram Murtazaliev’s stoppage of Tim Tszyu has ensured that so much of what came before it has become little more than an afterthought. Little over a week before fight night, however, plans had existed to relocate their fight to Las Vegas, such were concerns surrounding the coming storm.
Mexico's Omar Salado has been confirmed as the opponent to face Nicaragua's Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (28-0, 23KOs) on July 9th. Gonzalez makes the second defense of his flyweight crown of the World Boxing Association. The venue in Mexico is not yet known, however, Gonzalez trains with heavy intensity at the Roger Deshon Gym in the neighborhood of San Judas.
