Retired fighter Jamie Moore, who is now a rising trainer with a stable that includes Carl Frampton, says WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders (26-0, 12 KOs) is fully capable of defeating IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC world champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs).

Moore liked what he saw earlier this month, when Saunders traveled over to Canada and dominated former IBF champion David Lemieux over twelve rounds of one-sided action.

Golovkin had two very tough fights in 2017, with a close twelve round decision win over Daniel Jacobs in March and then a twelve round draw in September with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

Saunders is sitting back and waiting to receive news regarding a potential Golovkin vs. Canelo rematch. He wants to fight the winner - or he's up for facing either boxer if they are unable to reach a deal.

Moore has doubts about Canelo vs. Golovkin being finalized for the target date of May 5th, Cinco De Mayo weekend. He believes the contest is more likely to take place in September.

If the Saunders that entered the ring against Lemiuex is the same motivated boxer to square up with Golovkin, then Moore gives him every chance to secure the victory.

"I was thinking about the rematch between Golovkin and Alvarez, but I've been hearing Canelo's team aren't really the easiest people to deal with. Golovkin took the short straw last time, so I think that might get pushed back until September, so wouldn't it be great if Billy Joe Saunders fights Gennady Golovkin," Moore said to Sky Sports.

"He was absolutely brilliant against David Lemieux and that was a big, big statement and going in against 'Triple G' could well be the fight that puts him right up there. I am sure he knew going into Lemeiux that one small mistake could be the end of him and it would be the same against Golovkin.

"But he had to stick to the gameplan to a tee and if he does it against Golovkin, he has the perfect style and their's would gel really well. I actually think if it did happen, it would certainly be a fight Billy Joe could win."
