If all goes well, Miguel Berchelt could be making the second defense of the World Boxing Council super featherweight title against ex-champion Orlando 'Siri' Salido in the first quarter of 2018 in California, according to the information provided Mexican promoter Fernando Beltran, who works with both boxers.

The boss of Zanfer Promociones said that they still expect to make some moves before setting down the next defense for Berchelt, while Salido will be lined up for a stay busy fight in the month of November against a Puerto Rican fighter in New York.

"It's the plan that we have. It seems to me that the public will be anxious to see such a showdown. We know what Salido means for Mexican boxing and what Berchelt has done in recent years has been great - so if everything it works out well we'll probably see them fight in Los Angeles next year," said the Mexican promoter to ESPN Deportes.

Because of a hand injury suffered in his last fight, a domination of former champion Takashi Miura, Berchelt (32-1, 28 KOs) will take off until next year.

"Berchelt, because of the injury, will not be able to fight for the remainder of the year, but he is coming back from two hard fights against the best of the division and so it would be good to let him rest and to return with everything for a fight against a fighter who has a lot of heart," Beltran said.

On the agenda for Salido (44-13-4, 31 KOs), as previously stated, would be a likely return to the ring in November. At this point in his career, Salido realizes that he doesn't have the option to take any easy fights.

He was last seen in action back in May when he stopped Aristides Perez in Mexico. Talked about fights against world champions Vasyl Lomachenko and Gervonta Davis never came off.
