Former four division champion Juan Manuel Marquez is not a happy man, because he didn't receive any good news when he met with his doctor at the beginning of this week.
Marquez was having an issue with left arm, thought to be a shoulder injury, but it was revealed to be a bicep tear - which is going to cost him at least three to four weeks in recovery time before he can resume training.
Marquez had been planning to fight again on a date in late July or early August, but now that might be put on the shelfdepending on how things work out.
Marquez will keep exercising so he doesn't lose the physical form he's been able to achieve in the last few months since he began training with the idea of a comeback.
Marquez (56-7-1, 40 KOs) revealed that he had felt a severe pain in his left arm after throwing a combination during a work session with his head trainer Nacho Beristain.
"There was a tear in the bicep. They're giving me three to four weeks of recovery. I'm going to continue training, even if it's with my right hand," Marquez said to ESPN Deportes.
Marquez, 43 years old, has been inactive since May of 2014, since winning a twelve round decision over former world champion Mike Alvarado in Los Angeles.
There were several planned dates and comeback possibilities, but there were always delays because Marquez was dealing with a lingering knee injury that wouldn't go away.
Earlier this year, Marquez began training and he's had little to no discomfort in the knee. But now the injury with bicep has come up. Many of his longtime fans are calling for his retirement, but Marquez wants to at least have one or two more fights before calling an end to his Hall of Fame run.
