Mexico's Marco Antonio Rubio was very surprised with the recent statements that were made by Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who told reporters that he would be willing to face Rubio if a "good deal" was presented. Rubio, the mandatory challenger, has earned his right to fight for the belt and took offense to Chavez's comments. He considers Chavez Jr. and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, the WBC 154-pound champion, to be products of the media. He won't give them the necessary respect until they face formidable opponents.

"I'll say this to Jr., I went Canada to earn my right to fight for the title through the World Boxing Council (WBC). Nobody is giving anything away to me. And my promoter, Promotions of the People, are very interested in doing this fight and it wouldn't surpruse me if it went to a purse bid," Rubio said.

"Julio and Canelo Álvarez are crybabies. There are always searching for the right opponents, but I am convinced that on the same night I can nail both of them. They are nothing more than pure publicity. What I want to see is the two of them put in the ring with real opponents. I think they've damaged Chavez by making him believe that he's the champion of the world. Everyone knows that a circus act was pulled and there was a lot of drama to get him crowned.  I've already said it, I'll knock him out in eight rounds or less."
