Former two division world champion Paulie Malignaggi had all he could handle with a young Miguel Cotto, fighting at junior welterweight at the time, where he barely made it to the final bell and lost a twelve round unanimous decision.

Cotto, now the WBC middleweight champion, faced Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a junior middleweight unification last year. It was a tough fight with Mayweather winning a twelve round unanimous decision.

After suffering another loss, to Austin Trout, Cotto hired trainer Freddie Roach and now he's won back to back fights including a one-sided beatdown of Sergio Martinez in June.

Roach wants to get Cotto a rematch with Mayweather, but Malignaggi doubts a rematch would happen.

"I think Miguel Cotto is very dangerous, I don’t think he gets enough credit for the way he fought the first fight with Mayweather. I think he fought a very dangerous fight — I only had it 7-5 for Floyd Mayweather, 115-113. I think when we talk about Mayweather’s tougher fights of his career, I don’t think Cotto gets enough credit for the performance he had that night. That was a really tough fight for Floyd," Malignaggi told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.

"I don’t see Floyd giving him a rematch. Cotto is one of those guys that he hits so hard and he’s actually really good that if you’ve beaten him, you’d rather see him in your rear view mirror and not have to deal with him again. I’ve been in the ring with him and I don’t think I want to see him again, and he bet me. I don’t know, I think when you deal with a guy with that kind of punching power, you’re just kind of glad he’s behind you."
