Editor's Note - BoxingScene.com has received confirmation that a virus infection is the cause for Matthysse's withdrawal.

Sources out of Argentina, with close ties to junior welterweight Lucas Mathhysse, have confirmed to BoxingScene.com that Matthysse has withdrawn from his upcoming fight with Erik Morales, scheduled to take place on the Floyd Mayweather-Victor Ortiz undercard on September 17th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Matthysse and Morales were going to fight for the vacant WBC junior welterweight title. There are different stories going around as to the exact reason for Matthysse's withdrawal.

A member of the boxer's team confirmed his withdrawal, but refused to discuss the exact reason, which one source stated was an injury and another states was an illness. Matthysse had replaced countryman Jorge Barrios, who withdrew due to visa issues.
damn man this was such a great card, hopefully someone steps in and accepts challenge, question is who?
without that fight the card's not great anymore. Morales vs Madaina II anyone. They both had pull outs recently.

This is BS! I knew this **** would happen. This was the only competive fight on the whole card. Every other fight is easily predictable. In all honesty I really don't want to invite anyone over now. Most of my friends are UFC fans and I knew that this fight would be a war. Now Morales will fight ...
WTF, i really wanted to see this matchup. Morales would have boxed his ears off, just as he would have Maidana had he had two eyes available.
For that, he had to avoid that uppercut in the first round.

i was looking forward to this fight. I like Morales chance, his punch has increased since he stepped up. He is hitting as hard as some of the so called hardest hitters of the division. All he needs is his stamina back and he is good as new.
