BoxingScene.com has been advised by multiple sources that a welterweight crossroads battle between three time champion Devon Alexander and rugged contender Jesus Soto Karass is in the works for June 21st at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. By David P. Greisman - Marcos Maidana said from the outset that he didn’t believe in the Adrien Broner mystique, that he didn’t feel the undefeated three-division titleholder was one of the best fighters in boxing. But it wasn’t just what Maidana thought about Broner that mattered — it was what Maidana was going to do about it. And what he did was try to rough Broner up from the beginning, pummeling Broner in the first round and bloodying his face, knocking Broner down in the second round and again in the eighth, and taking a unanimous decision that gave Broner his first professional loss. Judge Levi Martinez had Maidana winning 117-109, giving him 10 of the 12 rounds. Nelson Vazquez had it 116-109, giving Maidana nine rounds. And Stanley Christoudolou had it 115-110, giving Maidana eight rounds.

Alamodome, San Antonio, Texas - Keith Thurman (22-0, 20KOs) stopped Jesus Soto Karass (28-9-3, 18KOs) with a bruising knockout in the eight round to retain the interim-WBA welterweight title Soto Karass rocked Thurman early in the first, which prompted Thurman to battle his way out of trouble. At the end of the first, it was Thurman who stung Soto Karass and got him in trouble with a series of punches. It was a war of wills in the passing rounds, with each fighter throwing and landing hard power shots. Thurman having the edge with Soto Karass' face taking damage.
Keith Thurman's the harder puncher and has better defense (Chaves, Zaveck, Lora, Quintana) landed just 29% of their power punches. Soto Karass is on a roll (wins over Aydin & Berto) and will bring the heat vs. Thurman. Karass avg'd 98 punches thrown in his last 4 fights, landing a respectable 35% of his power shots. Karass' opponents landed 48% of their power shots. Thurman's jab is under rated. He'll need that to hold off the hard charging Karass, who will be fueled by San Antonio fans.
Keith Thurman respects the redemptive journey Jesus Soto Karass took to reach their welterweight title fight Saturday night in San Antonio. The unbeaten Thurman also expects one of boxing’s best comeback stories of 2013 to end in disappointment at Alamodome.
