In what is arguably one of the biggest bouts that can be made on UK soil, Ricky Hatton and unbeaten lightweight star Amir Khan have expressed a lot of interest for a possible showdown to take place next summer. Both of them want it to happen and Wembley Stadium, which holds 100,000 fans, has been mentioned as the venue of choice.

Hatton told the Bolton News that he would take that fight “at the drop of a hat.” The biggest obstacle in making this fight is the fact that Khan is promoted by Frank Warren, who several years ago had a bad falling out with Hatton. The Manchester fighter broke ties with Warren's promotional company in 2005 and the two were involved in a very public war of words that continues to this very day.

Hatton would also like to be the promoter of the event, using his Punch Promotions company in association with Golden Boy Promotions (current promoter of Hatton). He doesn't want Warren involved with the show, and Khan recently signed a new contract with Warren.

“If the fight did happen I’d be up for the challenge," Hatton said. "And if I could promote it, even better. Amir would get the financial rewards he deserves. Amir has got bags of potential, but he has a lot of catching up to do."

Khan told the paper that he would be willing to rise in weight to make the biggest fights in Manchester history.

“It would be a massive fight. Both of us come from Manchester and it is a fight that people would want to watch “It would be one of the biggest British fights ever and you’d have a lot of people watching it.”

Hatton first has to deal with IBF junior welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi on November 22. He is also at the top of the list to face Manny Pacquiao in a super-fight to take place at some point next year.
