Russia cruiserweight contender Grigory Drozd (36-1, 25KOs) is the latest boxing who says he parted ways with well known promoter/manager Vladimir Hryunov. In the last two weeks, both Denis Lebedev and WBA "regular" heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin announced their decisions to break away from Hryunov. Drozd says he plans to return on October 5th in Moscow, as part of the Wladimir Klitschko vs. Povetkin undercard.

Drozd had a big 2012, with an eight round stoppage of Richard Hall, a first round TKO of Fabio Garrido and a twelve round unanimous decision over Jean Marc Monrose, where Drozd captured the WBA's International championship.

While being initially dedicated to the main event of the evening, cruiserweight unification under the aegis of the World Boxing Association, the presser has been given another pulse, when promoter Vladimir Hryunov and local business tycoon Andrey Ryabinskiy, announced that the show would actually be a doubleheader.
Jhonatan Romero has less than four years of experience as a professional boxer, but isn’t at all concerned about being fast-tracked towards a major title shot. The 122 lb. contender travels to Tijuana, Mexico, where he will face local favorite Alejandro Lopez in a vacant title fight this Saturday, which will air live on UniMas (11:30PM ET/8:30PM PT). Romero (22-0, 12KO) earned the shot with a near-shutout over Efrain Esquivias in their final eliminator last September. The event took place on Showtime’s ‘ShoBox’ series, though Romero insists the television exposure was means to introduce boxing’s best kept secret.
