BoxingScene.com recently caught up with trainer Abel Sanchez whose stable of fighters includes WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (24-0, 21KOs), WBO cruiserweight champion Ola Afolabi and prospect Joel Diaz amongst others.

Golovkin is scheduled to return to the ring on January 19th in New York in a fight televised by HBO.  So far Golovkin has had trouble securing an opponent. Golvokin's trainer said that his fighter was willing to move up to the super middleweight division to face hot prospect Edwin "La Bomba" Rodriguez (22-0, 15KOs) but according to Sanchez, the Dominican's team turned down the fight.

"Gennady will fight anyone from 154 to 168 pounds. Its like you said, right now it's high risk, low reward to face Gennady but I was told that Edwin Rodriguez turned down a $500,000 payday to face him. That's a lot of money. Nobody wants to face this guy right now but that will change as Gennady gets more exposure here in the U.S.," Sanchez told BoxingScene.com.

Golovkin needs to stay at MW and find someone, ANYONE, to duke it out with him. Where's that chicken Sturm at?? I hope he earns some courage and finally takes that over-due ass whuppin. If anyone should be accused of blatantly ducking Golovkin, it should be Sturm.
GGG already tapped that ass in sparring and I'm not sure Angulo's punch resistance is the same after all these punches he took against Kirkland.
Sparring is sparring; it's not a real fight. People work on things in sparring to get ready for the real fight. I'm no...
