WBA/IBO middleweight king Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25KOs) is very hungry to face the rule of the 160-pound division, WBC champion Sergio Martinez (51-2-2, 28KOs) in 2014. Golovkin plans to fight four times next year, looking to match his 2013 schedule. The first fight will take place on February 1 in Monte Carlo. Martinez, recovering from injuries suffered in his April defense against Martin Murray, will return in the first half of 2014 and Miguel Cotto is a possible comeback target.
"I want that fight very much. Everyone wants that fight, the fans, HBO. I hope we can make this fight," Golovkin told BoxingScene.com.
If no Martinez comes, Golovkin is ready to face any of the other champions in his weight division.
"I'm ready for everyone. I want to have unifications, with Martinez, with Peter Quillin, with Darren Barker. I'm ready," Golovkin said.
