  • First Fight - Nosebleeds

    Hey all,

I searched the forums and google for info on this.

I am about to have my first fight (kickboxing) on the 25th of february. When I spar I usually get a nose bleed when i get hit in the nose with a couple good hits.

My nose doesn't bleed too excessively, but it is still bleeding.

I am worried that the fight might be stopped because of this...

Any tips or suggestions? I am going to see the doctor this week about cauterization.

    Thanks.

Do get it cauterized, don't worry about the ref stopping the fight. It always happens. It also drains energy when you lose blood, worry about that.

Try rubbing your nose quite hard for about 20 secs before you fight. I got that advice from a top boxer and it seems to work for me. It loosens/warms up all the bits in your nose which would bleed when caught cold...

Nosebleeds are common in boxing, the nose gets tagged most because it protrudes from the face, you need to get used to it. Ive never known a fight to get stopped because of a nose bleed unless of course the bleeding is profuse from a broken nose. Keep your gloves up, elbows tucked in and dont wear white trunks.

yeah lol , cos its just gonna make it look a lot worse , on my first fight i got tagged after the bell which made the inside of my nose bleed , which i never noticed untill i rubbed my nose after the fight and my hand got all covered in blood lol

I've never really had much trouble with cuts of any kind. There are osme guys at my gym that seem to bleed to death after one tap on the nose! I don't really bleed... I hear the more you box the more resiliant you become to bleeding.

actually, your face does get used to it....at least mine does. I guess its an individual thing....i dont mind a nosebleed except when it affects my breathing.
