Can Alvarez Do Anything Besides Set-Reset High Speed Sharpshooting From The Outside?

Serious question. Perhaps some of his bigger fans who have really studied him and seen all his fights can answer this. I've only been watching Canelo since 2009...

When it seemed apparent that Alvarez may benefit from getting inside on Trout and imposing his superior strength he did not do so... He stayed on the outside and made no overt adjustments. He just kept sizing up the home run shots.

Is anyone concerned Canelo may be a little one dimensional? If this was 2005-2008 NSB I'm pretty sure I would have woken up to about five threads with that title in it with Alvarez's name on them...

He landed good hard punches on the inside (which was pretty rare) and moved very well.

Trout's style wasnt allowing him to get inside, he would roll away anytime canelo tried.

Tough to label Canelo one dimensional when he was able to outbox Trout on the outside. People thought that his only shot was to press Trout and try to work him on the inside.

He actually showed versatility by being able to win the way he did.

He pretty much tore up Shane and Josesito on the inside and that was last year. Canelo's got skills. His defense is super versatile. He can do the shoulder roll, he do the peak-a-boo defense, he can slip and weave under punches, he can use his legs. Then he can jab you, counter you, throws combos to your body, pressure you the way he did against Cintron. Counter you the way he knocked out Tata. Don't look at the opposition. Look at the many dimensions and strategies used to defeat his opposition with tremendous poise.

If Trout had let Canelo trap him along the ropes and get inside, this fight would have been over in 3 rounds.

Great post! Trout was turning him on the inside and I think Trout keeping his lead arm low prevented Canelo from throwing many body shots to the liver. It's not fun hitting elbows.

Exactly. And how much of a concerted effort did you see Alvarez making to counteract this? Yeah. Trout wasn't making it easy. Nope.

You're making reference to opponents of Alvarez who elected to trade with him inside within their natural fighting styles.

Trout was pumping the jab, and constantly spinning Canelo. Canelo's supposed to be the one coming inside, but he couldn't. Huge flaw in his game.

.......... Ok. Canelo deserves credit for winning the only way he knows how even though people thought he needed to do something else?
