Time For The Craziest Question Of All

Is a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight bad for boxing?

Obviously its the biggest fight that can be made and us as boxing fans love the sport and we know these arent the last 2 guys but you get the feeling that in the mainstream, once they fight then boxing will be dead again. Thats all the public really cares about. Im not saying the fight should never happened but maybe its best if we string it out a little longer.

Whats really upsetting to me is that you have real boxing people like Kenny & Rafeal on ESPN saying that basically there is no other real fights in boxing and nothing else can be made. Then Scully is on ESPN saying that there is no other big or good fights out there. They werent saying it like Pac-May is #1. We all know that. They were saying it like there is no other fights that are big. Merchant & Steward basically said the same thing during the fight. I think thats bad for the sport.

I heard Lampley ask them and I heard the ESPN guys ask the others, who are some other big fights that they could take. Who else can challange them or would even be an intriguing fight and all of them basically said nobody. How could they not mention Paul Williams name, espcially when he fights this week. Its like they are killing there own sport. They couldve touted Williams as maybe the best or atleast a very worthy challanger and then maybe alot of people would tune in this week to watch him. Instead they ****ed it up.

Its bad enough when the mainstream thinks boxing sucks and is only Pac & Floyd. We got idiot boxing people basically telling the public that. I just think there could be a massive letdown after that fight, e****ally if Pac wins. If Pac loses then I think people like him enough where they would still like to see him fight other guys but how many fights do either guys really have in them? They are both stinking rich. Sure they look like they can fight for years but will they? Sometimes I think the only good think that comes out of that fight right now is if it ends up being a trilogy or something.

Your'e probably right about the ESPN reps, they arent helping the sport by mentioning the only fight that needs to happen next is Pac/May...

But lets be honest... its the fight everyone wants.

I've been noticing that too, a lot of announcers and writers that make their living in boxing are saying stuff about how that's the only fight that matters...that seems crazy to me

I wouldnt even be shocked if Cintron beat Williams but you have to mention Williams name. That dont mean they have to fight him but just let the public know that boxing isnt just Pac-Floyd. We have some great fighters. I honestly wouldnt mind seeing Floyd-Margarito while Pac fights Berto as a tuneup for eachother but still very good fights. I wouldnt mind seeing Berto-Margarito, Pac-Bradley, Floyd-Williams, Cintron, or Martinez. Its definitely risky because the 1 thing you dont want is for either guy to lose before the face eachother but I wouldnt mind milking it for atleast one more fight. or maybe they do something like agree to terms to fight after there next fight

I hope it goes down in a trilogy! best of two but it will be floyd outright.

I think manny ****ed up calling outfloyd and tryingto rip him when he clearly lives in a glass house.

boxing needs new comentators if they are touting that ****. there are plenty huuuuuuge fights out there to be made!

all i know is manny house is built on sand he will have gobe from fighter of the decade to bum of the decade caught cheating or worse floyd will make an example of him when they fight. He might not be the same fighter after floyd is done with him. i hvent seen so much distain between two fighters before joke roach is setting his "son" up to fail.

if the fight goes down it will be a massicare is the fight doesn't go down it sucks. but right now we are in the midst of the greatest story unfolding for the ages!

crazy if you watchem back to back!

kinda give you shivers doesn't it!

Good post, and interesting to think about. I half agree with the fact that the sooner the fight happens, the sooner mainstream media and fans will turn off boxing but until the fight happens thats all we can talk about. Catch 22 in a way.
Personally boxing will never die for me, off the top of my head i can think of at least 10 mouthwatering matchups and if i sat down and thought about it another 10 would surely be thought of. Lampley & Co can say what they want but you have to remember they are media, not spokesmen. Media generally sensationalise thier comments to get more people talking, they have opinions just like you and me, it doesnt mean they know better.

I dont really care if the fight happens or not as long as they both have meaningful fight until they retire (like Pac/Marquez 3 or Pac/Margarito and Floyd on Martinez at 154 or even Berto)
