Burley vs Leonard

Charley Burley was a natural welterweight forced to move up to middle because he was frozen out of the 147 title picture. At his best, how would Burley handle the best 147lb version of Sugar Ray Leonard? 15 rounds. Who wins and how would it go?

I think fantasy fights involving Burley are very hard to call because of the lack of footage of his fights, I think the only fight that was recorded was the one against Oakland Billy Smith so for me it's very hard to make predictions on his fantasy fights, I prefer to rely on what I see with my own eyes than newspaper accounts or anything like that.

i have Burley vs Smith and IMO Ray Leonard would beat that guy, Charlie Burley is only spoken about since Legendary trainer Eddie Futch stated he was the best he ever seen, yet Futch was a novice in the sport until 1957 when the great Ray Arcel took him under his wing and educated him on the sport of boxing.. i never read Ray Arcel saying Charlie Burley was the best, but he sure said Ray Leonard was a great fighter after Duran v Leonard 1 & 2 which he was in Durans corner.

Altougth, others will disagree as Arcel has been quoted as saying he thinks Benny Leonard or Ray Robinson were the best.

Did you know that Archie Moore said that Burley was the best fighter he ever fought? That's alot when you look at all the fighters Moore fought!!

no i did not know Moore said that..although the IBHOF voted awhile back who was the greatest fighters in each weight division, yet there was no mention of Charlie Burley however there is no doubt that he was a very good fighter But Ray Leonard proved beyond doubt that he was one of the greatest fighters who ever lived
