Inspired by the dudes from sherdog.

To cut down on the repeat posting of threads we've answered a billion times, I, the great F l i c k e r came up with this, and you should listen. This combined with the search function should allow for you new posters looking to get your **** together where eating and supplementing is concerned on the right track, and off the bull**** meters of the veteran posters.
    --------------------------------------------------------

    Q: Hi, I'm a gnub here and...

A: Slow down there hoss. Watch this:

    Posting and you.

Now, after watching that video and understanding the point, I'd also like to direct you to this. It's fairly self-explanatory:

The tongue-in-cheek meaning of all this? Post smart, and post maturely. Do your homework, because believe you me, you're not getting spoonfed the answers to basic and inane questions here. Come prepared willing to learn and when an answer escapes you, do your best to find it on your own through research available at your fingertips.

    Now, onto the FAQ:

Q: Should I take a Multivitamin? If yes, which one?

A: Of course you should; think of it as insurance, even if your diet is optimal. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. You can get information on multivitamins: Here

Q: Should I take protein? I always hear about protein. When should I take it? Morning? Afternoon? Night time? What's a good protein? Casein? Whey?

A: Supplementing with protein in the PWO (Post Work Out) window is an effective and convenient way to utilize enhanced insulin sensitivity and re-fuel your body of essential nutrients. Whey protein is generally used PWO, as it is considered "fast acting", or "fast absorbing". Casein, a slow-digesting protein, is generally used at night to prevent catabolism.

Q: When should I start boxing? Is too late? Am I too young?

A: Relax, chump. There is no such thing as too young for boxing. Floyd came out the womb boxing, Dela Hoya's first english words were boxing. Marquez didn't go to elementary he went to the boxing gym. As for too late. As long as your not 30 years old your fine. It takes a long time to get into the high ranks so anywhere around 25 is fine if you plan on making it a career. Bernard Hopkins didn't start training -seriously- until 18 when he was in prison. And didn't go pro until 21.

Q: How do I gain weight?

A: There are a couple of factors to gaining weight. Eat big but eat clean, lots of whole grains, lots of leafy greens, lots of lean protein, simple carbs in moderation. At least 5-7 meals per day. Snack on things like almonds and yogurt, things with good calories and high nutritious value. If your numbers of calories in is greater than your calories out, you should be gaining weight. If you're eating is clean, you should be gaining lean muscle. Lift BIG. Lots of guys think they lift heavy and really haven't scratched the surface of what their body is capable of. Big weight = big muscles. And get AMPLE rest. 7-8 hours of UNINTERRUPTED sleep per night, and on your days off at-least have one day where you barely move. Your body needs to heal to grow.

Q: How do I lose weight?

A: Ultimately you have to decrease your daily caloric intake. Your going to have to burn 3500 more calories than you consume to lose 1 pound of fat. Cardio will need to become your best friend. Running and plyometrics will work fine. Sprinting will work better than long distance slow running. Dirt, grass, street. Doesn't matter it all works. If Sugar Ray Leonard ran on the street and became an ATG then whats stopping you from running on the street? Skipping rope will help alot too. Circuit training works the best, and has the quickest results. If you want to burn muscle away, your going to need to quit all anaerobic exercise(strength training) and focus only on cardio -NOT RECOMMENDED- Hence why cross country runners are skinny and weight 112 pounds even though they are 6 foot plus. Muscle also burns calories at rest, so is it really worth it burning muscle?

Q: Okay okay, I admit I don't eat that clean. But why is clean eating so important? Surely I will get bigger eating pizza and McDonalds, I mean their food is loaded with calories right? And if I had a whole bag of Doritos, that's like a billion calories!! Shouldn't I get bigger?

A: *sigh* You may end up getting fatter. And before you ask no fat does NOT turn into muscle. Fat is fat, muscle is muscle. Completely different molecules that never BECOME each other. And NO you DO NOT want to get fatter, before you say it. You want to put on lean and healthy bodyweight. Getting fatter comes with a laundry-list of health problems.

Q: What gloves should I buy? I want the best protection.

A: First of all, fragile fist. Gloves depend on the person using them. Some people love Everlast, others hate their guts. Some love rival, some think they are trash. Some love Cleto because their favorite boxer uses them. Well they are hard as my pee-naz(when that chick gets the rope) and dont protect your hands. Universally, the BEST gloves for hand protection is Winnings gloves. They are like pillows in the words of Freddie Roach, and are like cushions for the hands in the words of Floyd Mayweather Jr. Winnings gloves cost a fortune but are worth it. Dont buy gloves 16oz when you wear 8-10oz. Its ******, its like buying a size 12 shoe when your only a size 8. Winning gloves can only be found: here.. or ebay of course.

Q: I cant afford Winnings. What else is left?

A: There are many gloves you can get. Like I said, it differs upon the user. Ultimately, I would suggest Fighting Sports gloves. They are the poor man's Winnings glove. Like what Honda is to Acura. Cars arent your thing? Like the MLS to UEFA Soccer. Same thing, advertised under a different name, to cheaper people.

Q: I baught my gloves. Im ready for boxing! Im a prodigy! I win all my street fights!

A: Whoa whoa whoa, bucko. Your not a prodigy yet. You havent stepped into a gym and your saying your a prodigy. Street fighting and boxing are two TOTALLY DIFFERENT things. Street fights typically last 3 seconds at the most 5 seconds and end with yelling or wrestling. Boxing lasts anywhere from 1 second to 36 minutes. One requires no discipline and the other requires a ton of discipline.
Otherwise you end up like this guy: Here
    or this guy: Here
and ultimately end up like this: Here

Q: I dont want to be like those guys. Where can I find a gym?

A: Good. Its bad to be like those guys. You can look in the Yellow Pages under "B" for "Boxing". You dont like the color Yellow? Okay. Then look up at the pictuer of Samuel L and use Google. This is what you search... Boxing gyms in [insert your city here].

Q: Cardio! My gym doesn't do roadwork. So what can I do? What should I wear? What do you wear?

A: First of all. I like to wear a speedo. Its real breezy, and the so-cal weather is perfect for it. Anyways, you will want to wear running shoes. Nike, Adidas, Reebok, Asics, New Balance. Running shoes. Wear shorts, a t-shirt, a hat if you have long hair. You can wear a sauna suit, or alot of clothing as well if you want to lose weight. If weight isn't an issue then wear shorts, shirt(optional), running shoes.

Q: Can I substitute Swimming for Running?

A: Sure you can. Swimming is wonderful. I cant swim but it is a great way to build stamina. Go for it if you want to but remember its not a play swim. You have to make it count. Meaning you better try to break Michael Phelps record when you swim.

Hopefully this will help you gnubs and you wont be angry when you get dumb ass replies from a jaded person such as myself. This will be updated as more ******ed and frequently posted questions are added to the forum.

common misconception. hopkins did train and compete as a kid in the philly area, but gradually lost interest as he got older. prison is when he started training again.

To give you some easier examples...

Earnie Shavers didn't start till he was 22, turned pro a few months after his 24th birthday.
Bonecrusher Smith didn't have his first pro bout till he was 28.
Norton didn't start boxing till after college.
Nate Campbell turned pro a month before his 28th birthday.
