  • Nacho Speaks on De La Hoya's Weight, Pacquiao Loss

Trainer Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain returned to Mexico and wasn't afraid to talk about the key issues of Oscar De La Hoya's knockout loss to Manny Pacquiao. For two months, Nacho trained De La Hoya in Big Bear, California. Nacho, who trains Pacquiao's rival Juan Manuel Marquez, was brought in by De La Hoya to replace Floyd Mayweather Sr. After all the training and all the hype, De La Hoya was beaten up for eight rounds before the fight was stopped by Nacho and others in the corner. start throwing punches thats the best advice you have for your fighter. Mayweater sr. should have never left his corner and oscar was drained from the weight loss. But with that being said he should have not lost like that... hang them up you still hall of famer and got millions.. you gave us big exciting fights...

If DLH had problems with the weight, I think Rob Garcia should take most of the blame as Beristain said, he was in charge of DLH's weight and diet, there was a very good reason as to why Mayweather Sr. got rid of him IMO.

From what i've read nacho was more impressed with pac and gave him credit instead of making excuses for oscar.

No version of Oscar would beat Manny that night, Oscars style is always to be a pressure fighter and come forward, bad style against someone like Manny.

            And there you have it.

The weight wasn't the problem, like I've stated before. It wasn't like he sat in a sauna for 12 hours to cut water weight.

He had a nutritionist who was getting paid a lot of money to make sure he was in a caloric deficit throughout training camp.

This also explains why he was able to lose so much, and yet only gain 2 pounds back on fight night. Most, if not all of the weight lost was lean muscle mass.

Respect to Nacho for being gracious in this interview.

good read, huggers should read it too

i keep telling people the oscar was in good condition prior to the fight and that he trained at around 145, i dont know why people were surprise about him coming in at 147 on fight night

even nacho said it, its because of pacman's talent that led to the beatdown, not because of the weight or any health issues

again try to read the article before you comment

Seriously respect to Nacho for not having excuses and stating the facts. Oscar could not pull the trigger bottom line.

We really didnt hear much from Dundee during the fight. Wonder what he really was there for, prob to hype up the fight a little more.
