I think Jermain Taylor has a brighter future than Kelly Pavlik

For Pavlik there's the trip back to 160, where potential opponents are Arthur Abraham, Winky, and Paul Williams, or a bunch of journeymen mandatories.

I think that Abraham beats him. I don't see Winky fighting again (and I'm not sure Pavlik gets past him anyway). The Williams fight is possible, but that's about the one impressive win I see in his near future.

For Jermain Taylor there is the upcoming fight against Lacy. I expect him to look very good and get a lot of praise for a shutout victory. After that there are title fights against Froch (who has low hands and is slower than JT) and Kessler.

Fair enough, none of those guys are superstars, but an impressive win on HBO vs a former champion, winning a belt from an undefeated KO artist, and then a unification fight is something that gives a career a pretty big boost.

A realistic possibility is JT unifying at 168 with impressive victories over Lacy, Froch/Pascal and Kessler, before stepping to 175 for big money matchups.

I think JT will revitalize his career, and has more chance of getting a fight with Roy Jones, Joe Calzaghe or Bernard Hopkins than Pavlik does.

I give Taylor a better chance against Kessler, Calzaghe, Hopkins, Dawson...maybe not Jones, but that's about it.

Well Pavlik still has two world titles and no real challenger for them except Abraham, and that fight seems to have trouble coming off. Arthur just stands there with his guard up and doesn't move too much laterally, so I don't think he presents any of the problems that Hopkins did. I think we'll see a lot more of Taylor, I just don't know how his power will carry up to the higher weights.

I think they'll both be fine. That would be strange though if after all of this, Taylor is the one who goes on to have a great career.

          Definetely.

I think Pavlik should join the party at 168 anyway. I guess the clinically anorexic Paul Williams will have venture to middleweight soon, so he might be worth sticking around for.

The super midd division is really good.

          Froch vs Pascal

          Manfredo vs Bika

Are compelling match-ups, and none of them are the big guns in the division by any stretch. You can't make a bad fight at supermiddle, unless your Mogens Palle.

It depends on how Taylor does at 168, Pavlik does look somewhat sloppy with the extra weight but I think he would still have a good chance of people most of the fighters at 160-168.

            And styles make fights.

People will forgive Taylor for his losses and call it a fluke. But Pavlik will always be remembered as the guy who lost to a 43 year old man.

Taylor has a better future for sure.

So Bika finally has to make a mandatory defense of that Contender championship. Interesting that Manfredo ended up getting the spot.

Pavlik will always have buzz until he retires. He hasn't reached his peak yet and will learn from this experience. Top Rank and his managers will make sure that he is always hyped well.

This is pretty sad but true I guess.

It was pretty humiliating. I put this far above the Lacy humiliation because Pavlik had already proved himself to be able to compete in world class. Then that happened.
