  • EPO Dope ALLEGATIONS Against Nate Campbell

Allegations made by Joan Guzman manager Jose Nunez that Nate Campbell may have used the blood-boosting drug erythropoietin (better known as EPO) in his lightweight title victory over Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz are just that, allegations.

Nunez does not name the source of this contention, hinting only that “someone” in the Campbell camp has loose lips about the steroid being used by the triple belt world champion. And the manager’s remarks in a ****************** interview with Cesar Fermin may just be a ploy to mentally distract Campbell from his final preparations for the mandatory WBO title defense against the undefeated Dominican in Biloxi on Sept. 13.

In fairness to Campbell, it must be emphasized that what Nunez said may strictly be rumor and nothing more.

But, putting two and two together, I wonder if Nunez’s su****ions come from former Sugar Shane Mosley trainer Deryl Hudson. It was Hudson who introduced Mosley to convicted BALCO boss and steroids dealer Victor Conte some time before Mosley beat Oscar de la Hoya in Sept. 2003.

Federal prosecutors in San Francisco are sitting with sworn statements from Hudson and Conte that Mosley knowingly used the illegal EPO in that time period. In his affiidvait, Conte specified that Mosley was charged $1,850 for the endurance enhancing drug and a doping calendar.

In his sworn statement, which like Conte’s came after Mosley filed a defamation lawsuit agsinst Conte, Hudson said the fighter “knew that drugs provided to him by Mr. Conte were illegal performance enhancing drugs.”

In the Mosley-Hudson-Conte triangle, it is obvious that either the boxer is telling the truth or has committed perjury. Just as it is obvious that either Hudson and Conte have either spoken the truth or committed perjury.

So where’s the tie between Hudson and Nunez?

Hudson worked briefly as trainer for Guzman. Hudson and Mosley split up after Mosley was beaten by Winky Wright.

In the larger picture, how many boxers are using EPO to boost their chances of winning fights?

On July 22, anti-doping expert Dr. Bengt Saltin told the BBC that it is his belief that the use of EPO in the Beijing Olmypic Games is “widespread. I would think that with most of the medal winners and many in the finals in endurance events there is a big risk of them using EPO.”

The problem is snaring these drug cheaters is that there are ways to mask such usage, Saltin. Said.

“Of course they have to be clever but they don’t have to be too clever,” Saltin said.

Copycat versions of EPO, which may be undetectable under the methods now in use by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) , have come from Cuba, China and India and copycat versions are said to be on sale on the Internet for as little as $50.

Mosley is getting ready for a Sept. 27 fight against Ricardo Mayorga.

Terry Trekas Says Jose Nunez Writing Checks That Joan Guzman Cannot Cash!

Nate Campbell co-promoter Terry Trekas had a strong but predictable response to allegations by Joan Guzman manager Jose Nunez that Campbell may have use the blood doping steroid known as EPO when he beat Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz.

Nunez made the allegations in a ****************** interview with Cesar Fermin Thursday morning.

“I saw it,” Trekas said, “but it is not worthy of a formal response. It just make it worse for his fighter because now Nate will give Guzman an even worse beating. Nate does not like anyone making unfound and untrue charges about his ring accomplishments.”

Trekas said he thinks Guzman and Nunez will have regrets come Sept. 13 when the two fight in Biloxi.

“Nunez shouldn’t have gone there,” Trekas said. "The more Nunez shoots his mouth off, the worse it's gonna be for Guzman."

Pictured above is the bloody, battered mess that was the previously undefeated Diaz when Campbell slapped him around a Mexican ring within a bullring on March 8.

Diaz launches his comeback Sept. 6 in hometown Houston against the aggressive Michael Kastidis.

section of the interview where this came from:

CF: Jose, I’ve heard some rumors through some other boxing outlets that you were claiming that Nate Campbell was on some sort of performance enhancing drugs for the Juan Diaz fight. Would you care to comment on that?

Jose Nunez: Wait a minute get it right, there speculations and rumors going around that Nate Campbell was on EPO when he fought Juan Diaz. That claim came from Diaz’s camp. I’m no snitch but we all read articles and know where that came from. Obviously, as a manager I have to guarantee the safety of my fighter, I don’t know if it’s true but I’m not taking any chances. Do I think he was on it? Yes, but I’m not a doctor but you best believe come fight night I will have CSI in his dressing room….lol. Look, all jokes aside I’m looking out for the safety of my fighter and I’m going to have to take precautionary steps to make sure that Guzman gets a fair fight, no disrespect intended but I don’t trust no one …

CF: What steps are you taking?

Jose Nunez: Hiring a private doctor and pushing the Mississippi commission to test for that type of substance. I have no problem with Guzman taking the same test, also if the doctor wants to take a piece of Guzman’s hair and run test that could determine if Guzman did anything in the last three years, we have no problem doing that either.

if they go the route of using the expensive test with hair most boxers could get banned!
very few people are that clean!

It should be noted that the site that ran this site is run by Joan Guzman's publicist.

You sure about that? They always talk highly of Nate campbell and have frequent nate campbell mp3 interviews.

Anyways, doesn't really matter since the articles are quoting the sources.

Response from One Punch Productions –

Let me state, without any "gray areas", once and for all, that Nate Campbell has never, and will never use EPO, ESP, UFO's, or any other substance, drug, ointment, beverage, or anything whatsoever to unfairly enhance his performance in any fight throughout his career.

The allegations first levied by Willie Savannah, and now being furthered by Jose Nunez, are simply to discredit Nate, and his accomplishments. As for Savannah, he accused Nate of this to deflect criticism of his fighter having no Plan B, Plan C, or Plan D in his fight with Nate.

Since he can't offer a valid explanation as to why his fighter can only plod forward winging pitty-pat shots, it's much easier to blame the victor with the steriod allegations. As for Nunez, who knows? Perhaps he is simply laying out a built in excuse for when his fighter gets the living **** beat out of him in 3 weeks. I really don't know, and don't care, what Nunez' motives are.

If he thinks this stuff distracts Nate, then he obviously doesn't really know anything at all about Nate Campbell. Nate feeds off this stuff, and all it does is make him want to be a bit more sadistic in the ring. As Nate's co-promoter however, I do get annoyed with allegations being published against my fighter with no evidence whatsoever to back it up.

So therefore, I offer the following challenge to Nunez: I am willing to bet $1,000,000.00 (one million dollars) and a public apology that Nate will test clean for any history of any performance enhancing drugs. They can do hair, blood, skin cells, whatever the hell they want.

My only stipulation is that simultaneous duplicate tests be conducted by two reputable firms such as LabCorp and Quest, to insure the integrity of the results. I make this stipulation because as we all well know, for the right price I'm sure I could get a private doctor somewhere to swear on a Bible that Guzman is four months pregnant, but obviously that doesn't make it so.

With that being said, I'm sure that if Nunez truly believes these allegations, then Sycuan should have no problem backing him on the money for this wager, and the funds could be held in a third-party escrow until after the test is completed.

So the challenge is out there. No more bull****ting around. Time to put up or shut up.

The doping trauma will get worse still IMO. As I've stated in several posts earlier the so-called sanctioning bodies need to get get the upperhand before a fullblooded scandal explodes.

This means research, coorporation with WADA, out-of-competion bloodtests (not only urine-testing) and perhaps a blood-passport containing the normal blood-values of every ranked fighter.
