Calzaghe: Pavlik refused fight offer after Lacy fight

Calzaghe is being interviewed on live radio here in Ireland at mo, and presenters asked him why he won't be fighting Kelly Pavlik.

Joe - 'It's funny how people start running their mouth off once a fight has been signed. Once im signed up. We offered him the fight after I beat Lacy and he refused. We offered him again after he beat Taylor and he refused the fight. So what can I do about that.'

Furthermore, Joe maintains this is his final fight.

Since it's just speculation....

I tend to think that there was no way in hell Pavlik's people would have wanted a Calzaghe fight as Kelly's next major fight after his Taylor victories. Kelly had literally just got into a position to start making real money and I can't see why they'd want to jeopardise the reputation of an up and coming fighter with the world at his feet like that. I'm pretty sure the "we wanted Calzaghe" talk did only start immediately after it became clear he was going for Jones, and it makes sense when you think about it, because it hypes any future fight more and keeps Kelly's name on people's lips. It is indeed easy to call out a fighter who has agreed to fight someone else.

Surprised he would say that, he does keep things quiet. If this were true most would let it be known, he often doesn't so ppl speculate in ways which don't favour him.
