Disagree entirely. We're living in unprecedented peacetime. During the Pax Britannica there were still more and bloodier local conflicts than there are today. The difference today is that we have much better technology and can instantly share images of conflict around the world leading to the mistaken belief that things are getting more violent. They aren't. The baseline of violence has been dropping for centuries and WWII was just a blip on a declining trajectory.

Great Britain had a democracy while proto-Americans were hanging witches. The system of government is a constitutional monarchy of the sort also employed by Monaco, Spain, Denmark and the Netherlands (which by the way was the birthplace of modern democracy). It's not surprising that Americans don't understand how constitutional monarchy works, with their lack of knowledge being explicable by a combination of truly appalling education and a reliance for information on cartoon versions of history.

Essentially yanks go to Medieval Times and think that it's a faithful re-enactment of courtly intrigue in the late Middle Ages.
