The upset win over Moore redeemed him in the public eye.

You don't get over it. Anytime it is mentioned in his presence, the complex kicks in. By this time Duran's retinue of hangers on has the complex, and would have worse conniptions than Duran if it were brought up. You can bet it is never spoken of around Duran unless he himself brings it up, which is not likely.

Poor Davey Moore, in the wrong place at the wrong time (so to speak), became the sacrificial lamb for Duran's redemption. Parenthetically, the ref - possibly subconsciously wanting Duran to drop him again - failed to stop the mayhem in timely fashion.

Yeah, that fight went on way too long. Moore took a frightful beating.

"No más" is to Duran what Monica Lewinsky is to Bill Clinton. The scandals are unwanted appendages that are attached to both men for the rest of their lives. Despite that, historians have judged both favorably overall, which will only improve with the passage of time. Duran is ATG among the 10 greatest (#4#) of all time. Bill Clinton is arguably among the greatest US presidents of all time, with a shot at occupying the White House again!

Clinton has had his vices such as other great men in politics but as you mention his record as a president and humanitarian out weigh any scandals as do Durans as a humanitarian and great boxer. very good post

Let us not forget that both men earned their unwanted appendages. Clinton's great legacy is an illusion created by the one-time economic bonanza of the computer revolution, which he had nothing to do with.

Duran's Bergdahl moment exposed a crybaby beneath the tough guy. He cried for us that night and no one appreciated it. The crybaby still owes me $25 for the price of my closed circuit ticket, is how I feel about him.

He was one of the greatest, though, there is no denying it. Still, the pressures that made him desert the ring that night must have been nothing compared to the ones that made Bergdahl turn tail. I would not want senoir Duran in the foxhole next to me.
