    tunney trained for 6 years befor he challanged jack dempsey for the title.
    in the 6 years he improved his grip by doing pushups on his finger tips, he squashed a rubber ball in his hand for hours a day, he would lean against a wall and push him self away from the wall 500 times a day with each finger, he would soak his hands in brine until his hands were like leather and he would visit lumber camps and use them as strength training.
    after this tunney had a strong punch and a vice like grip.
