    Gustav Baumgardt

    Known contests at 1988 Olympic Games;

    Third Round: Kim Kwang-Sun (KOR) beat Arthur Johnson (USA) 5:0 (FLY 51kg)

    Third Round: Michael Carbajal (USA) beat Hien Dang-Hreu (VIE) RSC 1 (LFLY 45kg)

    From available footage of the Carbajal vs. Dang-Hreu contest, his performance is exactly what is expected of an Olympic level amateur referee.

    The mistakes he made in the Lewis vs. Bowe contest are absent.

        Probably the most overrated fighter, based "on paper"-fights. Some fighters are cunning, and fight people in the right time for themselves, and Lennox was the master of it, or got the most out of it.

          what is clearly noticeable in the Bowe vs Lewis Olympic fight, is how Lewis has abused PEDs during his pro career..just look at his physique in the Bowe fight, compared to his physique in the Holyfield (2) fight..

            Another perspective on Lewis-Bowe contest comes from Boxing News, October 7, 1988 issue.

            Despite the front cover, it does not take any issue with the Super Heavyweight Final decision.

              all those Youtube viewers who commented on the fight must be deluded...

              Boxing News is a British mag..what was the USA opinion?

                As yet have not come across an article disputing the stoppage.

                Typical of the reporting is the following paragraph taken from an article published October 2, 1988 in the New York Times;

                "In the super-heavyweight bout, there were no complaints or excuses as the Brooklyn-born Riddick Bowe was stopped by Lennox Lewis of Canada at 43 seconds of the second round."

                Is anybody else able source differing opinion?

                    Couldn't disagree more with that notion.

                    Please feel free to argue that point and we can discuss it.

                      American coverage seemed to have followed the nature of that previously mentioned in The Ring Magazine.

                      The stoppage became a negative for Bowe prior to him even becoming a professional.

                      And the misconception seemed to continue during his career.
