  • katiska's army journal.

Whoopie, my compulsory army service starts tomorrow (Monday, 14th of July).
I'll be heading to the Signal regiment at Riihimäki, Finland.
Next time I'll be back home maybe 2-4 weeks and make a report about my progress.
    I'll do my best
Oh yeah, it'll last for 6, 9 or 12 months.

      Thank you very much.
Signal regiment is pretty easy place. The night silence is at 22:00-23:00 and the morning starts at 6:00.
I'm 176cm (~5'9") tall and weight about 82kg (~180lbs). My condition is kind of ok, I think I'll do a lot better without the fat. I started running about 9 months ago, but didn't change eating habbits (mistake).

      About the place.
They have computers (with Internet access), Playstation 2, games, TV's and some other stuff.

Hehe, mostly cleaning the room (13 people atm), toilet and some other stuff.
Walked 6km and we run from place to place, etc. Very boring and I'm really tired.
Food is great, played a bit with RK62

I can't tell that I have made any progress other than on the military aspect. Made already good friends.
I'll update after I get some sleep

No update because I'm not allowed to tell any details. So, I've lost a lot of weight from 82kg to 76kg (167lbs).
We were on a camping trip for a week and slept only ~3h a night. The last night lasted from 24:00 to 03:30 (I was guarding from 2:45 to 3:30) and then we packed everything and left.
On a sidenote, I will be trained as a "leader" medic.
Ask if you need to know something, I'm not sure if I'll tell but ask

No it's not cool, the discipline is kind of killing people, a lot of pressure. We have to clean every day the room, toilets and some other places and some higher people check the places, we have to do really carefully the bed and when we go to sleep we have to do a nice packet out of the bedspread.

There's a picture of some beds.

And a picture of the packet. As you can see there are squares on the bedspread, and when you make the packet, those squares must be on correct places, if not it will "explode" and you have to do it again. A few days ago we had 4 minutes to do it, and I was the only one whose bedspread didn't explode, so I had 10 minutes to go to the bathroom and wash my teeth, others had like 0-2 minutes
