  • Is Oscar thinking straight? This May 5th thing makes no sense

He wants to make Canelo-Cotto on that date on HBO...Then Mayweather-Khan on the same date on Showtime?? and he wants to promote/co promote both?? isn't that cutting his money?? how is this a great idea?

It doesn't make sense to go head to head.

    Both PPVs will suffer.

He knows he won't be promoting Floyd's next fight.

Canelo is Oscar's big fish who will allow Oscar's company to survive and Canelo wants those dates so Oscar has to at least try to keep his man happy.

He has little control over Floyd but that is still a big fight so it is something they want to do also.

Oscar knows it is not going to go like that and he is probably hoping that getting Cotto will be enough for Canelo this time. Next time who knows Canelo seems pretty adamant about this stuff and it is Oscar's job to keep him happy.

Oscar is probably also secretly hoping that Cotto demands the fight be in June in New York, so he can negotiate off that date as part of that deal to get out of that needless conflict.

Canelo is taking his countries date back. Floyd has been using it to build his own numbers up, once canelo fights on that date Floyd will lose a lot of ppv buys. Win win for Oscar/hbo/canelo.

Oscar is out of the Haymon/Showtime loop. It may not be official, but his time is done with them, that's why he moved to HBO.

Unless Mayweather is fighting Pac on May 5th, he's going to move his dates. Canelo vs. Cotto blows any other fight out of the water

how is that cutting his money when he will be getting his same percentage from both bouts no matter what, so he will be making the same money.

I believe so Mayweather already said he might not even fight till September, I think he said this just to save face jsut in case he gets bullied off that May date by Canelo.

Apparently candid posters here seem to forget how Schaefer tried to take over GBP and leave Oscar homeless...
... But it seems that Oscar didn't forget that fast...
