You have to look at the deal they offered first. Why are they offering him $10M in the first place? They could easily offer him $5M and say this is the most you've ever gotten.

It's because they know the potential of this fight. They know it's going to sell a lot of PPV's, probably will crack a million and they want to collect all that revenue and give him nothing but a flat fee for a fight that could generate $65M.

It's obvious that fans aren't just going to purchase the fight to watch Canelo. He's the A-Side, but it's the matchup that is the selling point. Golovkin contributes to that. If Canelo was the star he'd be able to do over 1M without Golovkin. He did 300K against Liam Smith...
According to Gbp, he did just short of 300k vs Smith. According to Rick Glaser, much quoted by the Ggg hate trolls, he barely did over 200k

In any event, Fishnets is a proven liar who cant even stick to the "upside script" from one interview to the next so who knows what the offer really contains

Furthermore, given past performance, it's just as likely that this is nothing more than a PR campaign to rescue some of Canelo's tattered credibility and there is as much likelihood as these 2 meeting in the ring anytime soon as fighting me

De La Hoya: Flat Fee For Golovkin To Face Canelo - No Money Split!
You said there was no ppv upside and that the article stated such. Again...ppv upside and percentage splits are two different things.

The point is Canelo can't do big numbers without another star attraction.

He did 900K With Cotto (big name). But only 450K with Khan and now 300K with Smith.

The Smith fight pretty much tells you Canelo's real worth. He can do around 300K by himself.

Neither Canelo or Golovkin will ever be able to do 1M buys by themselves.

Unless they fight Pacquiao, Floyd, Conor McGregor. Which are 3 very unlikely fights.

It's just the way boxing is right now. If they want to make a huge fight, that's going to generate a lot of revenue, they need each other.

No they're not. If there is ppv upside, that's automatic percentage split. You fail on boxing, and basic logic. We all know what flat fee means here.

              • GGG sold out 6-10k arena's. Canelo just put 50k in Jerry's playground with roughly 300k ppv's. The kid dropped the belt to further show Team GGG and Abel that at the table they will get ****ed hard. So GGG fans those belts he has mean **** at the table. K2 is out of there league. PAC can get 40℅ from Floyd because he wasn't far behind him in ppv sales and star power plus how massive the fight was. This fight nah. Floyd, Cotto, Lara Khan and Trout **** not bad for 26 year old kid. GGG has OK names but nothing close. GGG has no bargaining power when it comes to breaking the money down. Ppv sales (No) Draw power (50k at Jerry's World with a no name, Sorry Brits........compared to 6-10k arena's) (No) Resume (No) So **** yes $10 mil Lil upside is very generous. Be mad all ya want GGG fans but I think Canelo wanna stick it to Abel. This is talked about at the table not those belts.

Exactly, which is why flat fees are a joke for a fight of this magnitude. Even lesser ppvs have upside all around, that's why gullible Khan took that Canelo fight, not realizing it'd bomb on ppv.

What's sad is Canelo should be gaining fans now that he's #1, not posting his worst numbers yet.

No need to read beyond that. When is the last time Ggg fought in a 6-10k arena? His last 3 fights sold out 19k at O2, 16k at the Forum, and 20k at msg

                    • It doesn't matter if canelo did big numbers with or without Floyd, cotto, Lara, Khan the fact is he was part of it and guess who hasn't. Take the money, they won't budge cause the money is way to much in canelo favor.
