  • Did Maidana have a 3 fight avoidence deal when Mandatory to Khan? Did Maidana Khan g

I have a disagreement with Dirk Diggler UK on the history of the build up to the Maidana Khan fight.
My memory of it was that there was a deal in place where Maidana revoked his mandatory rights for 3 fights or 1 year whichever was the sooner before he could fight Khan and should he lose 1 of those fight no fight at all.
Dirk Diggler UK disagrees with me and says

"Khan faced Maidana exactly when he was supposed to. There was no 3 fight or year delay. What are you on about?"

    He also claims

"Khan faced Maidana when he was supposed to and the fight didn't go to purse bids either."

Did the fight go to purse bids?

Maidana Khan was some time ago but I am sure many of you who have been on the forum for some time will have a memory of the events to the build up to the fight. Evidence would even be better.

What is your take on the subject?

    Khan's resume reads...

    Dimitri Salita - mandatory

    Paulie Malignaggi - voluntary

    Marcos Maidana - mandatory

So that's a 1 fight delay. Champions are not obligated to fight 2 mandatories in a row.

You actually made a thread about this?

Twisty. The deal was to tie Maidana to 3 fights BEFORE he could sanction a mandatory fight with Khan. The fact that Khan was sitting out has nothing to do with this. Are you denying that this never happened?

What 3 fights were they prey tell?

It's kind of an irrelevant point because a mandatory needs to be fulfilled in a certain number of days and Khan did exactly that.

Yeah Khan ran to try and make a unification fight with Bradley. The guy who Maidana twice pulled out of a proposed fight with due to phony injuries

            THINK before you speak dummy.

It's really simple Khan beat Kotelnik for the WBA strap. He then took on Salita which was a mandatory defense giving him the right for a voluntary against Paulie. When the WBA called the mandatory against Chino the fight was made without going to a purse bid.

There was no '3 fight avoidance deal' which sounds ridiculous. When the WBA called the mandatory Khan had 90 days to fight Chino, and he did.

Another thing, around that time Maidana had an injured back which forced him to pull out from a fight with Bradley so it's not like he could have fought Khan earlier. But I don't see how any of this is of relevance Khan fought Chino when he had to and that's all there's to it.

Yeah, I remember there being talk of a deal by GBP to maneuver Maidana away from Khan, not the other way around. Around the time Maidana fought Cayo, there was talk (as in an article posted on boxingscene) that Maidana had agree to not pursue a fight with Khan until X amount of fights had passed.

But then Khan came to the table to make the fight before any of that took place.

Its all true. After the year was up Khan still didnt want the fight so Maidana had to write a begging letter to the governing body to force the fight. Khan did not just step up to the table.

The whole situation was set up by de la hoya to build the fight.
