  • Comments Thread For: CompuBox Review: Mosley Dominated as a Lightweight

Shane Mosley, who recently announced his retirement, was a dominant force as lightweight champion. Shane landed 46% of his total punches, while opponents landed just 23%. If Mosley was fighting at lightweight today, his +24 rating would be second only to Floyd Mayweather's +25. [+/- rating determined by subtracting opponent's connect percentage from listed fighter's connect percentage.]

I imagine if he fought more than 1 or 2 ranked fighters At Lightweight the numbers may be different.

He was top dog at 135, Mosley's attitude is why he should be respected. He wanted to fight the best fighters, he was a fighter instead of a businessman. He'll have a warrior's legacy with big wins as well as big losses.

But he was never KO'd and managed a legit career comeback deep into his mid-30's when most people at his weight choose to (or have to) retire.

You do know that when Mosley was in his prime, he was always 1-2 divisions above Mayweather, and when Shane was past his prime-still good in 05-06 that it was he, not Floyd Mayweather, that came up with every excuse in the book to not fight him??? You oknow that right??? now it probably had something to do with Oscar, Shane's boss, wanting the first crack at Mayweather. But still, Floyd did not avoid him in his prime or right after his prime. And they still fought when Shane had stopped Margarito, who was the "man" at 147, and when Shane was the WBA WW champ/#2 WW/#3 P4P, and when EVERYONE was calling for that fight.
