  • Comments Thread For: Duva Reminds Kovalev-Caparello Critics About Algieri Win

Tickets went on sale Friday for the Sergey Kovalev-Blake Caparello light heavyweight title fight Aug. 2 at Revel in Atlantic City.

Don’t expect an apology from promoter Kathy Duva. She and HBO Sports executives gladly would match the Russian knockout artist against Adonis Stevenson, Bernard Hopkins or Andre Ward. None of those high-profile fighters have expressed genuine interest in facing the WBO light heavyweight champion Main Events promotes, thus Caparello, a southpaw promoted by Lou DiBella, drew the daunting assignment.

So the tactic to sell this fight is to convince people Kovalev is waiting to be exposed by a half-decent boxer?

We already know that's not true.

Stevenson ducked the fight in late 2013 when he was still on HBO and Andre Ward is an insecure coward...

Rather watch Kovalev fight anyone rather than watch Andre Ward hit and clinch all night...

Ward was scared to fight Kovalev because he wouldn't be able to clinch and push around a bigger guy who will tap his weak chin..

There's nobody left for Kovalev to fight because he's being ducked...so how about getting on the people who are ducking fights with him rather than telling us that halfway-decent fighters will beat him...

P.S. You do realize that triangle theories involve only three people. You are extending the theory and making it way too attenuated. But I agree that triangle theories mean nothing..but the Floyd-worshipers on here seem to only believe that one triangle theory matters: Floyd-Marquez-Pacquiao..that theory is widely accepted by internet Floydiots.

You really think Ward, Hopkins and Stevenson are scared of Sergei get a grip man, I like Sergei but he hasn't proved anything yet and is right now a product of hype.

to say that Sergie has no one to fight is a joke even if he doesnt fight those 3 Pascal, Bute, Cloud, Dawson, Shumenov are somewhat legitimate names and light years ahead of Caparello. This fight is a joke like Broner vs Rees made for Sergie to look good that's it don't defend it.

And this is why regardless of how you feel about Stevenson, he's a smart businessman. Kovalev has nobody but bums to fight for little money because he's chained to HBO. Stevenson can fight; Hopkins (a better fight legacy wise), Pascal or Bute for big bucks back in Montreal. He who has more options, holds the power. Stevenson is not 28 or 30, he's an older man that has to maximize his earnings before his career is done. He can afford to fight Kovalev later, but who does Kovalev have to fight for his next 3 fights?
