How is reach measured?

Hey guys,

I was wondering how a reach is measured in boxing. Is it from finger tip to finger tip or is it from knuckle to knuckle? I ask because, I think it would be more sensible measuring from the knuckles....

Does having a thicker and wider back give you a longer reach?

Thanks, so I assume they measure from the end of the fist across the shoulders and to the other end of the fist. I knew they measured arm length from the end of the fist, but I didn't know they do the same for reach.
