  • headgears in competition

hey guys, quick question.. are headgears MANDATORY for sanctioned men's amateur boxing competitions? (21 yr old)
i've never seen competitions in amateur level without headgears... but now that olympics has taken headgears out of the olympic games, is it possible to compete without?

reason: i'm horrible with a headgear (i guess im horrible without too, but not as bad) and i don't know why.. i just put one on today and i ate more punches than ive ever before :'(

They are fighting without head gears now at the elite levels. I believe that all AIBA bouts are now contested without headgear.

While it's great that headgears prevent bumps and bruises to your face they will also cause the brain to shake even more violently within the skull.
      True story................... Rockin'

You're fighting local bouts, this only pertains to those boxing internationally (AIBA)............... Rockin'

If I remember correctly, it's only in certain states. I think you can opt-out of headgear as an open-division fighter with ten or more fights.

Honestly.....how would headgear bother you? I can't see it really stifling anyone. Especially the open face headgear but that's because I'm assuming you're sparring. If you've been sparring how are you not used to headgear?
