  • Comments Thread For: Kovalev-Mohammedi, Flores-Shumenov: WBA Scoring

The WBA will utilize the Pod Index to review two title fights Saturday night.

Three anonymous judges will score the championship bout between WBA/IBF/WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev and Najib Mohammedi at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas by watching HBO with the sound muted.

Meanwhile, another three judges will do the same for the fight at the Palms Casino & Resort between Beibut Shumenov and B.J. Flores for the interim WBA World cruiserweight title by watching the fight on NBCSC. [Click Here To Read More]

Won't anonymous scoring mean judges will have more freedom to fix fights? I also didn't read the article.

I think the idea is that the people responsible for selecting judges won't communicate to others coordinating a fight who the judges are. But that just makes it so that we have to put trust in the WBA and anonymous judges, which doesn't seem like a big improvement.

Personally I appreciate the fact that they are thinking a bit outside of the box, and maybe there is something we can do to improve judging, but I'm not sold that they've found it. I feel like watching the telecast is not as good as seeing the fight live.

you can't bribe a judge if you don't know who he is.

I don't like this idea. If corrupt judges like CJ Ross don't feel accountable when their name is attached to a ridiculous score I hate to see what happens when it's not.

I'd rather see them increase the judging panel to 8-12, drown out incompetent & corrupt scores.

                  That's a good idea.
