Former two division champ Arthur Abraham will headline a Sauerland Event show on October 26 in Oldenburg, writes the always well informed Bild Zeitung. This is believed to be Abraham´s final tuneup before taking on current WBO super middleweight king Robert Stieglietz, who defends the title October 19 in Leipzig. Who Abraham will fight isn´t ready yet. Should all go well Abraham vs Stieglitz III might go ahead early 2014.
An interesting heavyweight showdown could take place in the fall. During the World Boxing Organization's ongoing convention in Budapest, the sanctioning body said it was willing to approve a fight between undefeated contender Denis Boytsov (33-0, 26KOs) of Russia and WBO European champion Christian Hammer (14-3, 10KOs), who was born in Romania and lives in Germany. The winner of the fight would secure a much better ranking. The fight itself could happen before the end of the year, if both sides are able to reach an agreement.
Contrary to some of the misinformation being reported by several outlets, Denis Boytsov has not finalized a deal to face Dereck Chisora on September 21 at Copper Box in the UK, with the vacant European title (EBU) at stake. Boytsov rejected the idea of facing Chisora next. He wants to take an interim-fight and then discuss the possibility of a Chisora match. The undefeated contender recently signed a promotional agreement with Sauerland Event.
Last week BoxingScene.com reported that the EBU ordered Dereck Chisora (17-4, 11 KOs) and Denis Boytsov (33-0, 26 KOs) to battle for the heavyweight title recently vacated by Kubrat Pulev. The fight is now being discussed for Chisora's return date of September 21 at Copper Box in the UK. While boxing professionally since September 2004, Boytsov is still only only 27 years old but the talented boxer has struggled with various injuries over the years. He recently broke away from Universum and signed a promotional agreement with Sauerland Event.
Earlier today, Kubrat Pulev relinquished the EBU heavyweight title to concentrate on his world title ambitions and the upcoming fight against Tony Thompson on August 24 in Schwerin. There was to have been purse bids tomorrow in Rome for Pulev vs Dereck Chisora (17-4, 11KOs) but of course that is now off. Stepping in as co-challenger is no other than Sauerland Event´s latest signing: undefeated Russian Denis Boytsov (33-0, 26KOs). As of this moment, there is no date set for purse bids but lets keep in mind this fight features a promotional battle between Sauerland Event and Frank Warren Promotions, so there is a lot at stake in this matchup.
