The winner of tonight's Super8 main event between heavyweights Shane Cameron and Kali Meehan could be pitted against David Tua next year. Cameron and Meehan square off at the North Shore Events Centre on a card that also sees leading Kiwi cruiserweight David Aloua take on rugged Australian Anthony McCracken in a rematch of their 2012 brawl - won via split decision by Aloua. Of the eight cruiserweights that contest the Super8 tournament, which features a $154,000 prize pool, Australian Brad Pitt and Samoan Vitalie Soi are the favoured contenders to progress to the final from opposing sides of the draw.

Meehan Unsure of Facing Tua, But Eyes Shannon Briggs
Heavyweight boxer Kali Meehan sees "no glory" in fighting David Tua after ending the career of another Kiwi contemporary Shane Cameron last night. Meehan had too much size and power for a valiant Cameron, winning a unanimous points decision over 10 rounds at the North Shore Events Centre. Tua has indicated he would be willing to make a comeback to fight last night's winner. But it will take some major persuasion from the promoters to convince the 44-year-old Meehan there is still merit in a fight he has longed for but now seems disinterested in. In his mind, the opportunity has clearly come too late.

David Tua Hits The Books, Hints at 2015 Ring Return
David Tua has gone back to school for the first time in more than two decades: but Tua the student doesn't mean we've necessarily seen the last of Tua the boxer. Tua has enrolled at Auckland University of Technology to study a social science degree starting with an initial four papers part-time while he also runs a boxing training business and does community work. The former heavyweight world title contender gave his biggest indication yet he may fight again - declaring for the first time he is not, as popularly supposed, officially retired from his 57-fight career.

David Tua has turned down a lucrative offer from world heavyweight boxing champ Wladimir Klitschko to be a sparring partner for his looming title clash with Alex Leapai. Tua told the Courier Mail newspaper in Australia that he "didn't want to help anyone beat a "Samoan brother". Leapai is a Samoan-bron fighter who learned his trade in Australia. He fights Klitschko in Oberhausen, Germany, on April 26. Tua and Leapai are similar physical specimens, the key factor in Klitschko sounding out Tua.
