WBA 'regular' middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) is hoping to eventually secure a showdown with Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (35-0, 32 KOs).

Jacobs has been out of the ring since blowing through previously unbeaten former WBO champion Peter Quillin (32-1-1, 23 KOs) in one round last December at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Before that outcome, Quillin was viewed by many as the biggest threat to Golovkin at 160-pounds. Now Jacobs is being pushed in that position.

Jacobs, technically, is the mandatory challenger to Golovkin, who holds the WBA's 'super' title at the weight. Golovkin is also the world champion of the WBC, IBF and IBO.

Jacobs will finally come back to the ring in September when he faces Sergio Mora in a rematch of last August's bout, which Jacobs won with a second round TKO. Golovkin will also return in September, potentially against British champion Chris Eubank Jr.

Many believe the political challenges will prevent Jacobs and Golovkin from taking place. Jacobs is under the Premier Boxing Champions banner and Golovkin is an HBO contracted fighter. Very few fighters in recent years, who are with PBC, have appeared on the network - due to a falling out several years ago between the network and PBC kingpin Al Haymon.

When the fight comes in line, Jacobs doesn't expect politics to create any issues in reaching a deal. He feels both sides will come together and do what's best to satisfy the boxing audience.

“I would like to fight Gennady in Brooklyn, but no matter where, it’s the biggest match of skillful middleweights that can happen,” said Jacobs to Premier Boxing Champions. “I know there are questions about some people doing business together, but I think it’s a situation that’s workable for the greater good of boxing.”
