On the night of March 18th at the Madison Square Garden in New York, an entertaining twelve round slugfest took place between defending WBC super flyweight champion, Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez and Thai challenger Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.

After twelve hard-fought rounds it was Rungvisai who was awarded a majority decision, which removed Chocolatito from his top spot on most pound-for-pound lists.

It was a such a disputed call that the WBC mandated an immediate rematch between the two.

Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, which has an interest in Gonzalez (alongside Teiken Promotions) explained:

"I've been talking to HBO and Peter Nelson (of HBO Sports) and they want to do the rematch in the fall. The WBC has ordered the rematch and I think the fans are all looking forward to it. I think that was such a tremendous fight with Roman and Srisaket and that night at MSG with Daniel (Jacobs) and 'Triple G'(Gennady Golovkin), those four great warriors fighting each other.

"Twelve rounds of championship boxing at the highest level. But the fans definitely want to see that fight again and HBO said they were looking at the fall, probably most likely a September time frame to do that."

The Los Angeles will most likely host this rematch. Last September Gonzalez headlined at the Forum against Carlos Caudras.

The fight in March resulted in Gonzalez losing his undefeated record (46-1, 38 KO's) along with his title.

"My understanding is both sides want the fight again and look, it was a huge springboard for Srisaket fighting at Madison Square Garden and challenging the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world and squeaking out a decision," said Loeffler.

"That was a huge springboard for his career and Chocolatito is such a competitor that he wants to prove that he's still the best fighter in the division and still a champion. So he wants to get his title back to prove that. So we're looking at doing that rematch in the fall."
