Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-1-1, 32 KOs) is delighted to finally have a return date. Earlier today, BoxingScene.com broke the news the Chavez was returning to action on April 18th against Polish light heavyweight Andrzej Fonfara (26-3, 15 knockouts).
Chavez had hoped to face Carl Froch for the IBF/WBA 'regular' super middleweight titles on March 28th, but Froch withdrew from those discussions on Monday morning with an elbow injury.
There is still a legal battle brewing between Chavez and Top Rank, who believe the boxer still owes them one fight.
"It is a very good fight. Hopefully we win and then go for the super middleweight title against Froch," said Chavez Jr. to ESPN Deportes. "Fonfara is a known fighter, people know he has power, and that is good, but we will train very hard to give people the fight that they expect of me and then we can go for Froch."
No details on the venue or the television network. Chavez feels the bout could land in Las Vegas or Los Angeles.
