Carlos Takam: record, next fight and profile →
JOE JOYCE has sensationally called out heavyweight rivals Alexander Povetkin, Carlos Takam and Jarrell Miller after a European Title fight with Agit Kabayel fell through. Germany's Kabayel withdrew from today's scheduled purse bid for a championship defence and therefore vacated his EBU European Heavyweight Championship.
Carlos Takam still very much wishes to remain in the hunt to face Oleksandr Usyk. All he asks for is a fair shake at making the fight happen. The veteran heavyweight contender was previously scheduled to land the assignment, only for their planned May 25 clash to get scrapped after Usyk suffered a torn biceps which delayed plans for his heavyweight debut. Now healed and ready to fight, the 2012 Olympic Gold medalist for Ukraine and former World cruiserweight king is penciled in for an Oct. 12 DAZN-streamed headliner at Wintrust Arena on DePaul University campus in Chicago, Ill.
Star Boxing officially announced the signing of heavyweight title contender CARLOS TAKAM (36-5-1 28KO's) of France, by way of Douala, Cameroon. Standing at 6'3", the heavy handed, Takam has taken on some of the best in the business, in the heavyweight division. Star Boxing revealed the signing last week on its social media platforms.
Carlos Takam is ready to resume his career—even if in a direction few expected. The 38-year old heavyweight contender signed a promotional contract with Star Boxing Inc., the New York-based company revealed on Tuesday. “I am excited about signing Carlos Takam,” Joe DeGuardia, founder and CEO of Star Boxing told BoxingScene.com. “He has tremendous untapped upside, especially with proper preparation. He was always a good athlete and now that he is training in Las Vegas with a quality trainer and getting good sparring he keeps improving.”
Oleksandr Usyk’s heavyweight debut continues to be a work in progress. The 2018 Fighter of the Year and unbeaten former World cruiserweight champion is due to return to the ring this fall after recovering from a torn biceps injury earlier this year. It killed plans for the Ukrainian southpaw to test the heavyweight waters this past May, where he was due to face veteran heavyweight contender Carlos Takam on May 25 in Oxon Hill, Md.
Oleksandr Usyk will be making his much anticipated heavyweight debut this year after all. The 2018 BWAA Fighter of the Year and unbeaten former undisputed cruiserweight champion will be moving up to heavyweight to fight Carlos Takam on Oct. 12 at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, a source informed of the fight told Boxing Scene. The matchup will be officially announced later this week.
Heavyweight contender Carlos Takam is not surprised that Anthony Joshua was shocked last month at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Takam gave Joshua a real tough test in the fall of 2017, before he was stopped in what many felt was too early during an exchange in the tenth round. Now Takam is being lined up for a planned fight with Oleksandr Usyk, who unified the entire cruiserweight division in 2018 and now heads up to heavyweight.
Back in May, Carlos Takam was scheduled to be the first heavyweight for Oleksandr Usyk, who is moving up in weight after unifying the WBO, IBF, WBA, WBC cruiserweight titles in 2018. Usyk was forced to withdraw from the bout after suffering an injury during training camp.
Oleksandr Usyk’s long-awaited heavyweight debut will have to wait a little longer. A torn biceps injury suffered by the reigning cruiserweight king and 2018 Fighter of the Year has disrupted plans for a scheduled clash with veteran contender Carlos Takam. The two were due to collide May 25 at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Md.
Tickets for the Heavyweight debut of pound-for-pound star Oleksandr Usyk against Carlos Takam on Saturday May 25 at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK, go on pre-sale today at 10am ET.
