Things didn’t go as planned for Saul “Canelo” Alvarez this past September when he suffered the first loss of his career at the hands of Floyd Mayweather on possibly the biggest stage the sport has ever provided.  The former champion is now back on the comeback trail as he will be taking on Alfredo Angulo March 8th on pay per view in Las Vegas, NV at the MGM Grand.

Alvarez admits Angulo was not his first choice as he originally pursued a bout with Puerto Rican superstar Miguel Cotto. With Cotto not willing to fight in March and now pursuing a fight with Sergio Martinez, Alvarez decided to face the charging and hard hitting Angulo as he feels the matchup will provide the excitement and action the fans covet.

“I think [the Angulo fight] was the 2nd best option to give the fans a great fight because the fans want to see a good fight where there’s activity and that’s why we decided [on Angulo]. I think he’s the best opponent to provide that. He’s a tough fighter who always comes forward. He can take and give a punch and always comes to fight. It’s a hard fight,” said Canelo.

Coming off a loss, Canelo was asked if he felt he needed to put on an impressive performance and demonstrate to the fans he’s still a force to be reckoned with.

“No, I don’t think I need to demonstrate anything. The people saw that I was always coming forward [in the Mayweather fight] and looking for the fight. But I don’t think I need to demonstrate anything to them. They know I love to fight and I always bring my best” Alvarez would tell BoxingScene.

The fight has been dubbed “Toe to Toe” and if both fighters do their part to live up to the name, we should be in for a treat.
