Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs) is not going to avoid a fight with WBA/IBO/WBC-interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs).

There are ongoing talks for Canelo to challenge WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto on May 2nd.

Golovkin is the mandatory challenger to Cotto's title. The WBC has already ruled that the Canelo-Cotto winner will have to face Golovkin, who defends his belts against Martin Murray in February.

Canelo's fight with Cotto is likely going to happen at a catch-weight below the middleweight limit of 160-pounds. A fight would Golovkin would require a similar agreement. Canelo and Golovkin have sparred in the past.

"Golovkin is a great fighter, very strong, and at this time everyone is afraid of him because he's knocking everyone out. But, you also have to take a look at who he's knocking out. The most important thing is that he is a great fighter. I did some sparring with him, he is very strong. Yes, I'd like to [fight him]," Canelo told RED FM 88.1 Radio in Mexico.
